Looking back to the summer of 2018 during my internship with The Mother Church (TMC), I think this was an adventure meant to hone my discipline in turning to divine Mind as Spirit; to be clearer, quicker, about what thoughts are really from God and which are actually not my thoughts but claims against Good by the material senses and so-called logic of the human consciousness.

I appeared to be sick one day, and I left early to work out the claim of upset stomach and severe headache. With the help of a CS Practitioner, the challenge was met quickly and I resumed my normal study of the Christian Science Quarterly Weekly Bible Lesson for the remainder of the day and pondering the Truth of Being.  Not long after, my roommate seemed to be struggling with illness. I calmly reassured him and my thought with a statement of Truth from the textbook, “…there is no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history,” (Science and Health 470:2-5).”

I knew that I was not praying for Mind to change my friend’s body from a condition of feeling poorly to one of wholeness and harmony. Instead, I affirmed that he could only ever experience health and harmony because they are permanently established as part of Being. By reflection, my roommate is only ever able to know and experience perfect health.

Affirming that all that I can know of Good is intact and ever at hand, I started looking about the efficiency suite for signs of harmony. As a gesture of Love, I cleaned out the refrigerator and the microwave. I washed up my friend’s dishes and made sure all was welcoming for him once he got up. A suggestion of trying to appease some “rule” of hygiene was easily and summarily dismissed because Love as divine Spirit brings order, a sense of purity, and assurance of our spiritual foundations. I knew what I did to clear up the shared spaces was a direct response, obeying Love’s directive to clear out all that is unlike Good- and that meant the rubbish. The food past due date, the surfaces and so forth must mirror the order and harmony of Spirit- for as a line in the Lord’s Prayer admonishes us, “As in Heaven so on earth,” harmony must reign if Love is enthroned.

That is when I realized that Spirit is expressed as Man when individual man is being Love. Love never ignores things, but instead, does all the necessary tasks to renew and restore harmony. Mrs. Eddy says in the Christian Science Textbook, “Being is holiness, harmony, immortality,” (Science and Health 492: 7 only). How wonderful to recognize this harmony is always at hand and that I have the power, by reflection, to do all needed to be in conformity with that perfect state of Being. I know I have much to work out as I have not demonstrated perfection every moment of every day- but I am confident that I have all the ideas needed every moment.

Respectfully submitted,

Ben
